Baikal!!!

19 July

Day 236: Irkutsk

A guy whom we met on the train to Irkutsk, Radik, promised to take us to Listvyanka on Monday to see Baikal and kept the promise! :D

He and his girlfriend Polina picked us up in the morning and we went to see the biggest lake in the world and a 5th part of World reserve of sweet water.

On the way we stopped in Talitzy, a place where some Russian historical movies were filmed and where you could see old Russian wooden architecture and beautiful view at Angara river.

Later we arrived to Listvyanka and saw Baikal!!

Fist sop at “local bear museum” with 2 bears, who were picked up being small and abandoned in the forest and grew up here. We bought some bread to feed them, but one of them was too busy licking a can of condensed sweet milk, so it wouldn’t bother about our bred haha

Next stop is to eat some plov on Baikal beach (a kind of Russian risotto or paella, which is originally Central Asia dish from Uzbekistan or one of the “stans” :DD, prepared with lamb meat, rice and vegetables). We couldn’t miss some shashlyk (typical Russian pork barbeque on the stick, prepared with spices and before cooking kept in vinegar for the special taste) and of course a couple of beers!

The day was wonderful and the water in Baikal was freezing :D

This time we had lots of people: 2 Anas from Irkutsk, Sergey and Nastya also from Irkutsk, 3 Dutch guys and Manuel. This was a revolutionary big meeting in Irkutsk :DDD

We had beers at Hans and later moved to the river square and were drinking beers till 3 am in the morning :D

Also this night we were staying with other Couchsurfers, Sergey and Nastya, who agreed to host us for this one night, since our hosts were leaving at 5 am to Olhon island for a bike racing.
