Mekong Delta boat trip

Day 95
Can Tho

Today we are going on Mekong river boat trip. It is a private trip, a small boat arranged only for 3 of us (Juli, me and Gaili, Luciano has decided to sleep :-D To see the sunrise we needed to wake up at 5 am...yeah.

This is our route for today:

- sun rise at Mekong
- Floating market Cai Rang
- Mekong delta channels
- Floating market Phong Dien
- Rice fileds
- Monkey Bridge

Our guide picks us up at 5 am at the hotel and we go to the boat, in complete dark.

Sunrise....

The town is starting to wake up...

Soon we arrive to floating market Cai Rang, which is compeltely authentic, real floating market - has nothing to see with absolutely comercial and artificial floating markets in Thailand.

And of course, national dress - pijamas!

Next stop - floating market Phong Dien

Soon we feel like going to toilet, but there is no toilet in the middle of the river...our guide (below) spoke to some woman in a house and she let us go to toilet in her house :-D

And this girl was living in that house too :-)

Next stop rice fields...

And monkey bridge...:-D

:DD

We had a stop at some bar, on the way, had a drink and continued our way back to Can tho.

The boat trip was finished and we are in the town again.

Gaili :-D

Later same day we have decided to go back to Mekong restaurant, since guys have seen the other night a dish with a big piece of meat! This was the plan for today :-D

Tomorrow we go to Ho Chi Min City or Saigon - the southern capital of Vietnam!

Arrival to Mekong delta

Day 94
Phu Quoc – Rach Gia – Can Tho

Today we are going to Can Tho,the capital of Mekong Delta. Fist we go by boat to Rach Gia and then by bus to Can Tho.

After arrival to Rach Gia pier, lots of motobike drivers immediately come and offer to take you to the bus station etc. We decided to check if there is a better option that take a moto and it was! Just in front of the pier it was a mini bus station, where we could buy a ticket to Cantho.

The bus ticket that we bought, included a free pick up from the pier to bus station, where we took a mini van which had to take us to Cantho. At the bus station, women wearing pijamas...normal stuff!:-D

The mini bus was really uncomfortable and we had to squeeze as well as we could..

Finally, after 4 hours we arrived to Cantho, but the mini van did not take us to any bus station, as usual in Vietnam, they just throw you out on some street, where you have to find the way to get to the hotel paying a moto or taxi.

We bargained for the moto price and agreed with moto guys to take us to one of the budget hotels that we found on Lonely planet.

Air con room, with hot water for 7 euros, not bad!!

And the menu of the restaurant of our hotel looked promissing :-D

We walked a bit around the city....

It was getting late and we went to have dinner of the restaurants, recommended by Lonely planet. Below you can see traditional vietnamese pan cakes - ban xeo, which is crep filled with seafood and vegetables.

Traffic in Vietnam is terrible, especially motobikes - they are everywhere. The difference with Thailand and Cambodia is that there are no tuk tuks on the streets - welcome to Communism!

Local beer - Can Tho, for less then 50 euro cents :-D

Phu Quoc boat trip

Day 93
Phu Quoc

At 7:00 we got to Coco divers office and were waiting for the pick up to the harbour.

This is our boat!

Luciano looks like amish because he needed to shave before wearing diving mask, but was lazy to shave the whole face haha

going through the harbour....

After arriving to Nail Island, everybody got changed and went into the water for diving/snorkleling.

the water was not very clear, but the coral was really nice...

Another stop at other snorkeling place

and jumping from the boat

Finally, after the trip we have arrived back to the hotel and went out. The curious thing about Vietnam, everywhere you go, you can see women wearing pijamas. Different styles and colours, but they wear pijamas everywhere - even at night, they put on silk ones haha

later same day ....beautiful sunset on the beach, just in front of our hotel :-)

and Juli jumping :-D

And to finish the day - as usual, dinner in our favourite night market. Seafood and more seafood!
