Koh Phangan - Koh Phi Phi

Day 67
Koh Phangan – Koh Phi Phi

Today we will take a boat from Koh Phangan to Surathani, then a bus to Krabi and finally a boat to Koh Phi Phi islands (pronounced Ko Pi Pi), which are the most beautiful islands in Thailand (that is what we've head :-)

The joint ticket (boat-bus-boat) you can buy in any tourist agency. The supposed to have fix prices, but as usual you can bargain, especially if you are not traveling alone - so it will be kind of a group discount :-D The boat from Koh Phangan was leaving at 7.30 and after all the connections we were supposed to arrive to Koh Phi Phi around 4-5 pm.

Ferry from Koh Phangan to mainland:

then bus and finally ferry to Koh Phi Phi:

Koh Phi Phi was one of the most affected areas after 2006 tsunami tragedy. On the island you can still see some areas which have been abandoned after tsunami or still in construction.

We arrived to the island around 5pm, with no accomodation booked and during the peak season. Somehow all the crowd that has been in Koh Phangan for the Full Moon New years party was slowly moving towards Krabi and Koh Phi Phi and to find cheap accomodation was not an easy task.

We left Luciano and Juli with the bags, and together with Andreea and Ariel went to look for a place to stay. The island is really small, so it took us around 1,5 hours to go around and check availability. All cheap places were booked and the cheapest we could find was something around 1500 baht or more (30 euros).

Since Andreea was on vacation and did not have cash problems, she decided to get some luxury and took a really fancy room with the outside pool and sea view for 1,800 baht (around 40 euros). It was a really fancy room with air con and it looked great!. What Andreea did not realize, was that there was no hot water in the room and the whole hotel. How can it be possible that fancy hotel does not have hot water? Yeah, i know, Welcome to Thailand!! :-D

Finally we decided to check one place that a girl from Couchsurfing has recommended me in the main forum when I asked for advices about Koh Phi Phi. The place was not on the main road, so probably due to that it was not completely full and the price was more the reasonable. 600 baht (12 euros) for a big clean room with the fan - GREAT!! The place is called Valentine bungalows, check it out! :-)

Same girl on Couchsurfing has recommended me a place to eat, a famous place on the island called Papaya. And after all our travels in South East Asia, I can frankly admit - It really was one of the best food that we ever tried!

And this is the menu:

The place was not fancy, but the food was great and the portions were enormous.

And this is famous Papaya's cat who doesn't like to stay ouside and sweat and prefers to sleep in the fridge :DD

  1. Hi, I am going to Koh Phangan in Jan 2013. And then to Phi Phi Island. Can you please tell me what time you reached Surat Thani by ferry from Koh Phangan and what time did you reach Krabi bus stop and pier? I have a concern that if I miss the 3 PM last ferry from Krabi then I will not be able to reach Phi Phi island on the same day. If you reply here, can you please also reply me at souvikbasu@gmail.com . Thanks
