Angkor Wat

Day 84
Siem Reap

Today we are going to see one of the most important monuments in Asia, one of the wonders of the world - Temples of Angkor.

As agreed yesterday, our tuk tuk picked us up from hotel. Gaili, our new member of the team, came to the hotel and joined us for the trip.

After arriving to Angkor Wat, you need to buy ticket for the temples. The ticket can be bought for 1 or 3 days, the price is around 20 USD for 1 day and 40 USD for 3 days. There are lots of temples around Angkor Wat, so if you are interested in visiting some of them, 3 days ticket makes sense.

We are lazy travellers and have decided to buy 1 day ticket and just to see main temples:

- Angkor Wat
- Baksei Chamkrong
- Bayon
- Baphuon
- Terrace of the Elephants
- Terrace of the Leper King
- Ta Keo
- Ta Prohm

This is the map where we were going on our trip (and this is a short trip, just 1 day :-)

Fist stop of course - the main and most famous of all the temples - ANGKOR WAT!

crossing the bridge to Angkor Wat, no tuk tuks are aloud there.

And this is probably the best plce for the picture :-D

(The green net on the background was spoiling a bit the image (Gaili, can you please delete it in photoshop :-DD

inside the temple:

The temple outside looks much better then inside actually, not much to see :-D

Frankly we expected much more from the famous Angkor Wat. it is of course beautiful and impressive construction...but I've seen better...for example Taj Majal :P Anyway, we continued our route to other temples..

And on our way, in the forest, we saw lots of monkeys, asking for some food...

After buying some bananas from local childrens, Juli started making new friends :-D

Bayon, our next stop.

This temple consists of 37 towers, all of them are made of 4 faces looking in different direction. This was one of the most impressive temples we saw in Angkor.

Before going to the next temple, we stopped for lunch at the Restaurant Nº 9. It was a street full of restaurants, looking the same and probably with the same kind of food, the difference was only the number: nr.9, nr. 8, nr. 7 etc

And this is our tuk tuk driver working hard while we have lunch haha

The thing that we especially did not like about Cambodia is a huge number of children who are working selling stuff on the street. It looks like they don't have any childhood...really really sad.

This girl was so sweet trying to sell some fridge magnets, so we could not resist and bought some :-)

Next stop - Baphuon and Royal palace area.

Luciano and Juli went up (long stairs) and me and Gaili waited down (too lazy to walk after lunch haha)

And here you can see a Superman, who wanted to do some business with us, selling post cards :-D

Next stop - Elephant terrase.

Next stop another famous temple - Ta Prohm, where the buildings were captured in the hands of nature...beautiful! (this was my favourite of all)

Finally it was time to go back, when heavy rain has started and we hid in one of the street shops, having some beers (of course!) :-D

It looks like no sunset view for us tonight :-D

it was a great day, but now its time to say bye to our driver!!!

and have some dinner...

Luciano and Juli have decided to try something new and ordered a bbq frogs, water snake and land snake...hmmm

after some beers (for 50 euro cents), we finally went back to our hotel :-D
