Hong Kong Island and hot pot dinner

26 April

Day 152: Hong Kong

We woke up at 11 am and went to discover central Hong Kong. Using a walking tour from Lonely planet, we went to the Sheung Wan station on HK island and started the walk from there.

Had lunch in the Cooked food market, some noodle soup as usual.

More walking around:

At 5pm, we went to Mong Kok area, where we met Jonathan, another couchsurfer, who promised to show us best places to buy photo camera in Hong Kong.

Below, we are with Jonathan and Furia Roja (Spanish national football team) poster :D

Mong Kok is the safest area to buy photo camera. Here you have less probability to get cheated, but still, you need to know where to go. We checked with Jonathan couple of shops, and Sera has decided to buy a new Nikon S300 camera in one of them. The price was around 30% cheaper then in Spain, so it was a good deal.

Since Serafin has bought a new camera, we have agreed that I will test it for some period and if I like it, will buy it from him. However, I needed to buy a new lens, and we bought sigma 18-200 mm lens for Nikon. Now I got a big camera!! Hahaha

After Mong Kok, we went to meet Michael, English couple and some couchsurfers to the restaurant in Tsim sha tsui area, where we were going to have a hot pot.

Hot pot is a very common meal in China, we had something similar in Japan, Vietnam and Singapore (in Tommy’s place, when his mum cooked a family dinner –yummy hot pot!!). It is a pot with boiling water and spices in the middle of the table and lots of different raw ingredients (meat, fish, vegetables), which you have to chose for yourself, boil in the pot and eat! :-D The dinner was tasty and the best thing was that for 10 HKD more (1 euro) per person, we got a free buffet for beers haha Imagine how many we drank :DDD

During the dinner, Vivian, a couchsurfer which we met in Barcelona just two weeks ago, called and asked where we were. She came later with her friend and we all went for a drink somewhere close to the restaurant. The thing about Hong Kong is that drinks in the bars are extremely expensive, even more then in Europe. For example one beer is around 45 – 55 HKD (4 – 5 euro), which is pretty pricey.

Due to this fact, guys have decided to go to 7/11 shop and buy some beers and even wine. When they came back, they ordered one beer and just kept refilling it in the toilet, with the beers they bought from outside.

In the end, restaurant stuff probably thought it was a longest beer ever, since nobody was buying anything else :-D

After that we bought some more drinks, took a taxi and as usual were playing poker till 4 am in the morning or something, in Michael’s flat.
