From Taupo to Rotorua - Waitomo caves and hot springs

Day 41
Taupo – Waitomo – Rotorua

We woke up at a decent hours, still exhausted after Tongariro crossing, took the car and headed to Rotorua. On the way we planed to visit Waitomo caves famouse by impressive number of glovewarms covering its celling - milky way in the cave!

We stoped a minute at Taupo lake and fed cheeky swans who were asking for food with no complex :DD

After exit from Taupo we saw the sing for Huka falls - we stopped to see and it turned to be an impressive waterfall, wow, what a colour!

Next sign on the way - "hot springs walk". We stopped to check it out and it was a private land, where the owner has discovered some hot springs geting out of the ground (all over Taupo and Rotorua the area is volcanic) and decided to arrange a volcanic walk and charge money for 30 minutes walk around steams getting from the ground. We didn't want to do the walk but instead we discovered all kinds of funny animals the owner had on his farm: lamas, peacocks, hairy chicken, ducks - was really funny to feed all these animals :-D

Lo más espectacular fue alimentar a los pavos reales, elegantes, que no comen del suelo, sino de la mano. Lo que cae al suelo es para gallos, gallinas, patos, ocas y demás.

Nice hair style :-D

After the farm, on the way to Waitomo we stopped at this beautiful lake. This is what I love about New Zealand, every corner has something to see! :-D

Finally we have arrived to glovewarm caves and went to the 1,5 hours tour. It is incredible what you see when you get inside the cave. A real milky way of glove warms, the whole celling is covered and you feel like it is a night sky full of stars.

(*the pictures are forbidden inside the cave, so these ones are from uncle google :-D However, the real view looks exactly the same)

After the caves we finally headed to Rotorua city, where we needed to find a house of our hosts, Jeff y Vicky.

In the same time we agreed to meet Marama, Mel's friend who lives in Rotorua and she promissed to take us to natural hot springs, 20 minutes drive from the city. At hot springs we also agreed to meet a local CS-er, Kylie and her guest, Megan.

We took some beers, wine, candles and swiming suits and together with Marama (she picked us up in her car) went to see a place called "hot and cold". It was a unique place, where two rivers where mixing up together in a natural lake. One river, with hot volcanic water, natural hot spring and another river - normal cold water. In the natural pool you could feel hot and cold streams - amazing!

There were around 15 people chilling in the pool (btw, it is absolutely natural and absolutely free) and Juli as a real tourist started to take pictures. Locals guys were joking and showing to Juli their butts for the picture :-D

In couple of minutes Kylie found us in the dark and we chatted siting in a hot pool :-D

After the pool we went out with Marama, changed the swiming clothers and sat on the road looking at stunning sky, full of stars. It was an incredible Milky way above our heads and we suddenly saw ....a falling star! Magic night!
