Sydney sightseeing or how to get free entrance for the lookout

Day 24: Sydney

Friday promised to be hot and sunny day, weather forecast was 32C and think that summer hasn’t officially started yet!

We decided to visit Opera house and the harbour again, but this time to go up to on the Harbour bridge, where we expected to have better views.

We have found the stairs to climb the bridge, went up0 and the panoramic view was spectacular indeed! But we wanted more :-D

In the middle of the Harbour bridge there is a Pylon Lookout, which leads to a very top of the bridge. The entrance fee is 10 Australian dollars (around 7 euro) per person, which we didn’t want to pay.

So we enter the look out and start climbing the stairs until we see a girl cashier who charges for the entrance. Juli stars the improvisation:

- Juli: “Hello, we have lost our group of Spanish tourists and we think they are up in the look out”.
- The girl at the cashier: “Do you have your vouchers for the lookout?”
- Juli and Elena: “Our guide has all the vouchers”
- Cashier: “Could you give your guide a call and ask if he is up there with the vouchers?”
- Juli and Elena: “Ah sorry, we have left our mobile phones in the hotel! Can just one of us go up to see if our group is there and another one will wait here downstairs?”

And the girl says ok, so I go up to take some pictures and “look for the group” and Juli stays downstairs with the cashier girl waiting for me. After 2 minutes the girl tells him to go up and look for the group too. This way we both successfully take some pictures with a harbor view and then go down and tell to a girl: “Sorry, our group is not here, but we will keep looking for them”.
Yep, this is how it worked :-D

From the top we also saw a group of people doing guided tour of Harbor bridge walk. The cost of this tour during daytime is 198 AUS $ (around 150 euro), night view of the city costs 228 AUS $ and sunset is 298 AUS $ (220 Euro).

And we had this beautiful view for free! :-D

Later we met our friend Kirin, had a walk through Chinatown and ended up in Darling Harbor watching the sun go down.

And Sydney was wishing us a Merry Xmas :-D
