Day 26: Mana (Fiji islands)
Next day after the breakfast we went to another beach called ‘Survivor Beach’.
Going to the beach we went through local village, just behind our beach house and a village dog just decided to join us during the whole walk to the beach. We called the dog Lola (it was a girl) and later I was a witness of Lola’s crab hunting on the beach :-D She actually got the crab from its hall, played with it a bit and finally ate it – yeah, there are some places in the world where dogs normal food could be a beach crab :-D
We snorkled around the beach, discovered a coral reef again with lots of fish, blue sea stars and Juli even saw a small reef shark.
We went back to the Lagoon, got ready and at 12pm boat came to pick us up and take us to Nadi. This time I started to feel a tooth ache. It was getting stronger, so when we arrived to Nadi and met Diana in the Boat Club (close to the place when boats c ome from the islands), we decided to go directly to the local dentist and see what is possible to do.
Juli stayed at Boat club with Noah and me and Diana went to the dentist. Dentist equipment reminded me my “hard USSR childhood”, kidding :-D It was totally old, not modern equipment, however, dentist told me I have an infection and must take some pills to calm it down, until some treatment can be done to the tooth. He gave me some pain killers drugs and in an hour the pain was gone. We have decided to go to dentist in Auckland anyway, to see what has to be done to the tooth, since in Fiji it seemed to be impossible :-D
Me and Diana came back to the house, Juli and Noah have arrived later with some bought food and Noah started to prepare a local dish for dinner, called‘Rou Rou’, while we were playing with Diana’s puppies (she had 2 big Doberman dogs and 11 puppies, which were for sale).
Another thing to know about Fiji culture – it has totally machist society. It means, even for dinner, men should eat first and then women should eat the rest of the meal. Or in case something bad happens, its always a woman’s fault. When Noah has stolen Diana’s money, and she told Paul about it, Paul just said: “It’s your fault; you shouldn’t keep money on the table, where he could see it”.
Anyway, Noah invited Juli to eat with them the dish he cooked (which was meat mixed with 2 kg of spinach and it was clear Juli can’t eat something like that with his sensitivity for vegetables :-D
The day was finished and tomorrow we had a flight to Auckland!
Good bye Fiji, we will miss this beautiful sunsets!
